This article contains describes RMM licenses.
License Server Limits
A license file allows a functional operation (Discovery/Assessment, Migration, Backup, or Disaster Recovery) to be performed on a certain number of servers. This number is shown under the Limits column in the "License Data" area of the ‘rw
rmm show’ output.

----------- ------------------------ -------------------------- --------
6/10 remain Fri Dec 11 16:06:08 2024 Sat Dec 11 16:06:08 2025 Valid
The Limits are expressed as “R/T Remain”, where T is the total number of servers
your license permits operations to be performed on, and R is the amount of those that have not yet
been used.
A server in this context is a source/production server.
If the T value is 10, then there are 10 servers on which the RMM can perform the Functional Type (Discover, Migration, or Disaster Recovery) of operations on before the licenses in the license file are exhausted.
If the Functional Type is Disaster Recovery, then each of those 10 servers can be discovered, captured, migrated, put into a DR Policy via a Wave, and have snapshots taken and restored.
Each of those operations can be performed on those 10 servers multiple times if needed.
If the Functional Type is Migration, then each of those 10 servers can be discovered, captured, or migrated multiple times if needed.
The first time an operation is performed on a server, the R value will be decremented.
After that, the R value will not be decremented because of any other operation performed on that server.
When the R value becomes 0, the RMM will not perform any operations on new servers.
Contact Rackware Licensing (licensing@rackwareinc.com) if the R value becomes 0 and you need to protect or migrate more servers.
Please note that if the networking changes on a source/production server, or the OS on a source/production server is upgraded, the RMM will treat that server as a new server, and performing an operation on that server will consume another license.
If you have a Backup or Disaster Recovery license, and one or more of your servers has had its networking or OS changed, please contact RackWare Licensing at licensing@rackwareinc.com. There is a procedure that can be followed to allow you to protect all the servers allowed by your license file (the value "T" in the discussion above) even if some of them have had their networking or OS changed.
The output of the command "rw license generate-report" will show you which servers have consumed your licenses.
License Expiry
A license has an expiry date. After the expiry date the RMM will no longer perform any operations on the servers covered under this license, nor will the RMM perform operations on new servers even if the R value under Limits is greater than 0. Contact licensing@rackwareinc.com if you would like to have your license extended.
License Invalidation
A license may become invalid if the RMM has been powered off for more than 8 days or if the network, disk configuration, or OS of the RMM has been changed. It can also become invalid if the RMM has no access to an NTP server. If your license becomes invalid, please contact RackWare Licensing (licensing@rackwareinc.com).
